Our fabrics
We take sustainability seriously at Sway. What each garment is made of is a big part of our push
toward ethical and sustainable clothing. Read on to understand what fabrics we use for our
collections.
Eri silk / Ahimsa silk
Sometimes also known as a type of ‘peace’ silk or ‘ahimsa’ silk, eri silk is produced in a sustainable and cruelty free manner. Being silk, it is lustrous, soft and suitable for wearing in both warm and cool weather, and completely biodegradable. When produced responsibly, it is a beautiful, eco-friendly fabric that is both luxurious and hardy.
Organic Kala cotton
Kala cotton is a genetically pure, rain-fed organic cotton hailing from India. Due to its ability to grow with very little water, kala cotton has minimal environmental impact when grown responsibly; such kala cotton is also considered to be amongst the most energy efficient and carbon neutral crops in the world
Ajrakh
‘Ajrakh’ is an ancient method of intricately hand printing textiles using colorful, hand crafted all natural dyes and hand carved wooden blocks. The technique also changes the fabric by lending it thermo-regulating properties.
Tencel
TENCEL™ is the brand name of some types of semi-synthetic fibres made by the Austrian company Lenzig AG, used to create fabrics such as Tencel Lyocell. Responsibly made Tencel Lyocell fabric is biodegradable and sustainable and has minimal environmental impact. The fabric itself is soft, silky, moisture-wicking, durable and breathable.
Dead Stock Fabric
Dead stock fabric refers to unused or excess fabric that was manufactured or purchased but never used for its intended purpose. Increasingly, this fabric usually ends up in a landfill – with the added disadvantage of never having been used.
